6 picks from real cruiser reviews

From Tampa International Airport (TPA)

TPA is about 20 minutes from Port Tampa Bay by car, making it one of the most convenient airport-to-port transfers in Florida. The airport is modern, well-organized, and rarely has the chaos you see at MIA or FLL.

Uber/Lyft: $15-25 depending on traffic. Taxi: ~$25-35. Shared shuttle: $15-20/person.Best for: Most cruisers flying in

Tampa traffic is generally lighter than Miami or Fort Lauderdale, but the Howard Frankland Bridge (I-275) can get backed up during rush hour. If your flight lands before 7 AM or after 9 AM, you'll breeze right through.

From Orlando International Airport (MCO)

MCO is about 75-90 minutes west of Tampa. Some cruisers fly into Orlando for better flight deals or to combine a Disney trip with their cruise. Factor in the longer drive and possible I-4 traffic.

Uber/Lyft: $90-130. Shared shuttle: $45-60/person. Rental car one-way: check rates.Best for: Cruisers combining a Disney/Universal trip with their cruise

I-4 between Orlando and Tampa is notorious for traffic and construction. Avoid driving between 4-7 PM on weekdays. If you're coming from a theme park, leave early in the morning to give yourself plenty of buffer.

Driving & Port Parking

Port Tampa Bay has a covered parking garage across from Terminals 2 and 3 on Channelside Drive, plus a separate lot at Terminal 6 on McKay Street. The port is easy to reach from I-4 (Exit 1) or the Crosstown Expressway (SR-618). Follow signs to your specific terminal once on Channelside Drive.

$18/day at the port garage. Off-site options like Rightway Parking start at $10-14/day with shuttle service.Best for: Cruisers driving from Florida or nearby states

Pre-book parking online through Port Tampa Bay's website — the garage can fill up on busy sailing days. Off-site lots like Rightway Parking are cheaper and include free shuttles. Drop off luggage and passengers at the terminal before parking.

Hotel Shuttle Services

Several Tampa hotels offer park-and-cruise packages with shuttle service to the port. The Hampton Inn Channel District is walking distance. The Barrymore Hotel, Quality Inn Airport, and several others include port shuttles in their cruise packages.

Usually bundled in park-and-cruise packages ($100-200 total for night + parking + shuttle)Best for: Cruisers who want a stress-free morning with parking included

The Hampton Inn Tampa Downtown Channel District is the closest hotel to the port — you can actually walk to Terminals 2 and 3 in about 8 minutes. Their parking deal through Rightway is $14/day, saving $4/day versus port parking.

Uber/Lyft from Anywhere

Rideshare works well in Tampa. The port has designated pickup and dropoff areas near each terminal. Drivers know where to go.

From downtown Tampa: $8-12. From airport: $15-25. From St. Pete/Clearwater beaches: $25-40.Best for: Flexibility and door-to-door service

Saturday morning surge pricing is less of an issue in Tampa than Miami. Prices are usually reasonable even on embarkation days. Schedule your ride the night before for peace of mind.

TECO Line Streetcar

Tampa's free streetcar runs from downtown Tampa through the Channelside district and on to Ybor City. There's a stop right near the cruise terminals. It's a fun, scenic 20-minute ride if you're staying downtown.

Free (fare-free since 2018 — confirm current status at tecolinestreetcar.org as funding is reviewed periodically)Best for: Cruisers staying in downtown Tampa or Ybor City hotels without a car

The streetcar runs every 15 minutes and is a great way to get between your downtown hotel and the port without paying for a ride. Just note it doesn't run until 8:30 AM on weekends, so plan accordingly if you have an early boarding time.
