Which Galveston hotels include cruise parking and a shuttle?
Most of the cruise-oriented properties on the island sell some version of a park-and-cruise package, including Moody Gardens, the Holiday Inn Resort on the Beach, SpringHill Suites, Comfort Suites, the Tremont House, and Avenue O. The set of terms we could read on an operator's own page during this update was Moody Gardens' Stay, Park and Sail, which includes valet parking for one vehicle and round-trip transportation to and from the port for up to four guests, is available on any cruise embarkation day, and charges $60 for each additional vehicle on stays up to seven nights. Elsewhere, confirm the day count and the shuttle seat count directly with the property.
How much is parking at the Port of Galveston?
The port does not publish a flat rate. Its own parking pages say that different rates are offered depending on which lot you choose, whether it is covered or uncovered, and how close it is to the terminals, and the figure appears when you enter your sailing dates in its reservation system. Prices move with the ship, the date and demand, so the only reliable comparison is to price your exact dates in the port's system and then check a hotel package and an off-site lot against that total.
Should I stay near the Strand or on the Seawall before a Galveston cruise?
The Strand is the historic downtown a few blocks from the terminals, best for walkable dinners and the shortest embarkation morning, and it carries the highest prices and sells out first. The Seawall is the Gulf-facing side about ten minutes away, with beachfront rooms and a much wider range of prices. Choose the Strand for a couple's trip or a very early check-in window, and the Seawall or Moody Gardens if you are arriving early enough for the beach to matter.
Is there a height limit for parking at the Galveston cruise terminals?
Yes. The Port of Galveston's own FAQ gives the garage clearance as six feet, eight inches, and describes most spaces as a standard nine feet by nineteen feet. Anything taller than that, including vehicles with roof boxes, needs a surface lot. The port also says it accommodates RVs in its economy lots, but that depending on the length of the vehicle you may have to buy a minimum of two spaces.
How far in advance should I arrive in Galveston before a cruise?
Arrive the night before if you are flying, without exception. Both Houston airports feed onto I-45, the only practical road onto the island, and that road can add an hour on a busy cruise morning. From Houston itself, an early morning drive for a midday check-in window is realistic. From Dallas, San Antonio, or out of state, the night before is worth its cost in reduced risk alone.
Can I walk to the Galveston cruise terminal from my hotel?
From a small number of them, yes. Harbor House at Pier 21 is on the pier itself, and the Strand hotels are within a short walk or a very short drive of the Terminal 25 and 28 area. From the Seawall or Moody Gardens it is a drive rather than a walk. Bear in mind that Galveston's terminals are spread across Piers 10, 16, 25 and 28, so walkability depends on which terminal your ship uses, not just on which hotel you booked.
