From George Bush Intercontinental Airport (IAH)
Houston's largest airport is about 75 miles from the Port of Galveston. Allow at least 90 minutes for the drive, more during rush hour.
Consider staying in Galveston the night before if your flight arrives after 3 PM. I-45 traffic can be brutal, especially on weekends. Multiple shuttle companies offer IAH to Galveston service — book in advance.
From William P. Hobby Airport (HOU)
Southwest's hub is closer to Galveston — about 45 miles, or 60 minutes drive time without traffic.
Hobby is significantly closer than IAH. If you have a choice of airports, Hobby saves 30+ minutes. The route via I-45 is straightforward — just watch for ferry traffic near Galveston.
Driving from Houston or Nearby
Galveston is about 50 miles south of downtown Houston via I-45. The drive is easy but traffic varies widely.
Leave early on embarkation day — I-45 can back up significantly, especially on weekend cruise days. The last few miles through Galveston can also be slow with cruise traffic.
